A seat cover that's installed incorrectly will bunch up, slip, and wear out faster. Worse, it can interfere with side airbags if not routed correctly. Taking 20 extra minutes to install it right is always worth it.
Pull the headrests straight up and set them aside. Most seat covers slip over the seat back first, then the headrest covers go on separately.
Work the cover down from the top, smoothing as you go. Don't yank — ease it down evenly on both sides. If your seat has side airbags, make sure the cover's airbag seam aligns with the seat's airbag deployment zone.
Tuck the cover into the seat crease using a trim tool. Route the straps under the seat and connect them. Pull snug but not so tight the cover distorts.
Lay the bottom cover over the cushion, tuck the edges into the crease, and secure the straps to the seat frame. Most covers use S-hooks or zip ties to anchor to the seat springs underneath.
Slide the headrest covers on, then reinstall the headrests. Adjust the cover one final time to remove any remaining wrinkles.
